        Stanley Buchesky

        2017 Interim CFO, U.S. Department of Education

        As the founder & Managing Partner of the EdTech Fund, Stanley became involved in education when he was leading mergers and acquisitions for McGraw-Hill and then as one of the founding trustees of Equality Charter School. Since the founding of EdTech Fund, he has advised seed stage edTech companies in both K-12 and Higher Education.

        As our opening speaker,

        ————Stanley opened up discussion with the question 'What is the ultimate goal of education. He points out that as technology takes over more and more labor-heavy jobs, higher education should prepare students for entering such job market with skills that are irreplaceable by machines. Comparing to traditional skills such as calculation and crafting, abilities such as problem-solving and critical thinking should be the focus of higher education.

        Daniel A. Wagner

        Chair in Learning and Literacy, UNESCO

        Being a professor of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Dan Wagner is also the Chair of Learning and Literacy of UNESCO and the Director of the International Literacy Institute. His extensive experience in domestic and international education industry has brought unique insights into the globalization of education.

        Representing international education organizations,

        _____Dr. Wagner discussed the development of EdTech from a brand new angle. His speech shed lights on current education situations of not only the more developed countries but other also those of the third world countries. Although modern technologies have brought numerous positive changes to the education industry, it also has largely expanded the gap between developed and developing countries in terms of learning and literacy. Therefore, Dr. Wagner urges innovators and educators to reconsider the direction to where the fast growing industry of EdTech is heading.

        Wasifa Jamal

        Postdoctoral Associate, MIT Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences

        Working in the field of Brain Science for over 8 years, Dr. Jamal's various research interest includes signal processing, machine learning, computational neuroscience, learning disabilities, etc. She has published multiple influential research findings in on topics such as intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorder and EEG signal processing

        Working with Brain-Machine Interfaced technology,

        _____Dr. Jamal focused on the possibilities of integrating neuroscience into the field of education . With the increasing amount of attention focusing on this cutting-edge industry, we see investment coming from not only governments but also top innovators including Tesla, Facebook, Microsoft, etc. In addition, Dr. Jamal showcased the application of brain-machine interfaced (BMI) technology in special education, a field which is often neglected by the mainstream. She pointed out that BrainCo, the pioneer in this field, is making the neuro-feedback training technology more and more accessible to patients affected by ADHD, thus reshaping the possibility of ADHD treatment.
